Helms Bakery represents Restaurant Design International’s (RDI) largest and most complex project to date—spanning 15,000 square feet across three levels in the historic Helms Bakery District on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles. This multi-year project demonstrates RDI’s expertise in large-scale restaurant and foodservice design for adaptive reuse in iconic buildings.
The facility includes:
Basement Level: dry storage, walk-in refrigeration, and employee support areas
Main Level: full-service gourmet kitchen, bakery, pastry kiosk, coffee kiosk, retail area, bar, and guest restrooms
Mezzanine Level: mechanical infrastructure and primary product development and bakery mixing area
Over a five-year design and construction timeline, RDI led the full foodservice design and MEP coordination, collaborating closely with the project architect. RDI also procured and installed all commercial kitchen and foodservice equipment, delivering a seamless, high-performance environment.
This project showcases RDI’s ability to deliver visionary restaurant design in Los Angeles, especially for large, historic, and multi-use hospitality venues. Helms Bakery has been beautifully reimagined as a vibrant culinary destination, preserving its legacy while meeting modern operational demands.
One of Restaurant Design International’s (RDI) most renowned and memorable projects, Waicoco Restaurant is located on the stunning Kaʻanapali Beach within the Westin Maui Resort. This high-profile project showcased RDI’s end-to-end expertise in restaurant equipment procurement, logistics, and installation for resort-based foodservice operations.
RDI managed the complete foodservice equipment package, including consolidation and storage in a bonded warehouse prior to ocean freight shipping. Careful coordination ensured all equipment was securely containerized, shipped to Maui, and efficiently cleared through customs upon arrival.
Once on the island, RDI oversaw on-site delivery and installation at the jobsite, working closely with project stakeholders to ensure a smooth and timely execution. The result is a beautifully installed, high-performance commercial kitchen that serves one of Maui’s premier beachfront dining destinations.
This project highlights RDI’s capabilities in managing complex restaurant design and logistics projects for luxury hotels, resorts, and remote destinations.
Restaurant Design International (RDI) completed the full foodservice design and execution for SVBSM, an exclusive private club located on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California. This marks RDI’s second successful collaboration with the client, following the original club in West Hollywood, a highly regarded destination within the entertainment industry.
The new Santa Monica restaurant design project features a third-floor dining facility with two premium bars and a rooftop bar offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Malibu coastline. The layout was strategically designed to support high-end service while maximizing visual impact, aligning with the expectations of a luxury hospitality environment.
By combining form and function, RDI delivered a custom-tailored restaurant layout that enhances both guest experience and operational efficiency. This project reinforces RDI’s reputation as a leading restaurant design firm in Los Angeles, with deep experience designing upscale venues for private clubs, coastal restaurants, and hospitality groups across Southern California.
